Summary

Baughman states that resistance is an ongoing problem in weed control (especially to glyphosate), but not all control issues are resistance based. Using residual herbicides is the key to success; the effectiveness of “yellow” herbicides is related to the amount of irrigation. Other residual herbicides can be used in combination with “yellow” herbicides, depending on the potential rotation. Baughman reviews data from applications of various products used pre- and postemergence, outlines strategies for managing resistance, discusses the need to protect new technologies, provides guidelines for minimizing drift with new technologies, and discusses how to make postemergence applications most effective.
