Summary

This presentation begins with a recap of furrow irrigation, including irrigation thresholds and application volumes and rates; data are provided for on-farm corn and soybeans. Next, new research is presented on pivot irrigation and comparisons are made with furrow irrigation regarding irrigation thresholds and application volumes and rates. In sum, given the differences in irrigation thresholds, pivot and furrow systems must be managed differently. Growers also must adapt to their own systems, for example, considering low-capacity wells and underdesigned pivots.
