Summary

​This presentation will provide an update on Soybean rust in the U.S. Topics will include a discussion on general characteristics of the pathogen, including symptom development; the role of kudzu as an overwintering host in the disease life cycle; benefits obtained from the National Soybean Rust project; seasonal weather conditions that favor or limit the development and spread of soybean rust in the U.S.; and fungicide use strategies to combat this disease.

About the Presenter

Edward SikoraEdward Sikora has a 100% Extension appointment with responsibilities for soybeans, vegetables, tree fruit, small fruit, and pecans in both commercial and home garden production. His program emphasis is directed at developing, evaluating, demonstrating, and implementing integrated pest management (IPM) practices in commercial production systems. In recent years, his program has focused on monitoring and management of soybean rust, a relatively new disease of soybeans in Alabama. Dr. Sikora is coordinator of the National Sentinel Plot Monitoring Program for Early Detection of Soybean Rust in the United States.​
